The 2020 Niners season came to an end Oct . 27 . What an unusual year in more ways than one . Yet , we had a wonderful
FIEWEGER time together following the rules and enjoying some fun times and events .
On Oct . 13 , we gathered in the pavillion to award our 2020 season Most Improved Player .
Congratulations to Maureen Larsen . Husband Lauren Larsen was most proud . Maureen together with her husband raised an additional $ 500 for the Wilsonville Girls Golf team making our total donation a generous $ 1,086 . Coach Chris Bensal and the team were most appreciative .
We invited Niners Jean Scrugham and Millie Keylock to join us at this event . Jean recently retired from golf at the age of 95 ! Retired ? Well almost . She has a putting carpet in her apartment at SpringRidge and practices daily . And she is still using the putter her husband George built when they were married ! Proves a 70 year old putter still works !
During the social hour , we learned that Niner Cathy Czar was Jean ’ s first “ Little Sister !” And Brenda Gardner was her “ Little Sister ” soon after . Both remember how encouraging and helpful Jean was . Both recall her being the absolute best putter !
Millie , 85 , now has the honor of being our most experienced golfer .
“ Tis the Season to be Jolly .” I asked Millie to share with me Christmas 80 some years ago .
“ I grew up in Alberta , Canada . Winters were fierce sometimes 40 below .”
She was the youngest of six siblings ( one brother ). They had a bobsled ( decorated with lights ) and spent hours going down hills ; four to five of them holding onto each other ! Their father built an ice skating rink in the backyard and neighbors joined them for hours of fun .
“ Being the youngest of six I had to

go to bed first . We all attended church Christmas Eve and sang in the choir . The congregation arranged for ‘ the sound of reindeer hooves ’ on the Church roof and all the kids squealed that Santa had arrived . What fun to wake up and find my doll and a pram ! To this day my favorite present .”
The family loved the tradition of baked plum pudding and Canadian raisin cake . Millie said , “ I think it had liquor in it !”
Millie lost her mother to breast cancer at the age of 49 . Millie was 14 . She is so proud to be a Niner and being supportive of the Pink Ball Golf Tournament as well .
We are going in the winter months . The officers are planning new event ideas for our next season that we are anxious to share with you . You will be pleased .
The Niners group was also invited by the Womens Golf Association at Oregon Golf Club to participate in their annual Scramble . Women golfers from Oregon Golf , Pumpkin Ridge , The Reserve , Arrowhead , Tualatin Country Club , and Lake Oswego Country Club participated for 72 players . The Niners sent Karen Siegal , Brenda Gardner , Claudia Riewald , Debra Ulrich , Suzanne Buxton , Sue Schnieder , Deb Nemes and Mary Fieweger . We were very well-received and won several events ! The Niners invited the group to join us at Charbonneau for a Scramble in 2020 and they are excited ! Karen Siegel , Deb Nemes and Brenda Gardiner will be chairing this event . Please contact them if you would like
