ABCD APPROACH USING ASSETS TO SOLVE SOCIAL PROBLEMS IN NIGERIAN GRASSROOTS COMMUNITIES By: Adam Abdulraheem NIGERIA In July 2016, Prikkle Acad- emy visited the community of Afon, Asa Local Government, Kwara State, Nigeria. In part- nership with the Afon Vol- unteers Initiative (AVI), they took on a project that would later enable the Afon youth to transform their resources into assets that would solve their community’s problems. Prikkle academy is a youth- led organization that focus- es on inspiring and igniting young changemakers in grass- roots communities to collabo- rate and identify strengths and resources within their commu- nity to create innovative solu- tions to social problems. This group follows the asset-based community development ap- proach (ABCD) which is based on the principle of identify- ing and mobilising individual and community assets, rather than focusing on problems and needs.
