BLOOMINGTON , IN
As one of the oldest undergraduate chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Incorporated ® to be chartered in the state of Indiana , Tau Chapter has a rich legacy that upholds the vision of its founders and charter members . For 100 years , Tau Chapter has served as the pinnacle of service , high scholastics and sisterhood .
Tau Chapter was chartered on the campus of Indiana University at Bloomington , Indiana , by Sorors Mabel Lee Alexander , Mattie Mae Fellows , Ethel Reed Marshall , Alethea Sylvesta Miles and Daisy Araminta Payne on December 16 , 2022 . It was the first African American sorority on the campus of Indiana University . This year , Tau Chapter pays homage to and celebrates the bravery and tenacity displayed by the five audacious women who laid the foundation for their Legacy of Love .”
Since its chartering , Tau Chapter has made a longlasting impact on our sorority , the campus of Indiana University and the local community . Not only has Tau Chapter continuously hosted timely and meaningful programs to prepare college students for success and serve the needs of the community , but the chapter has also produced dedicated women prepared to serve as leaders throughout our sisterhood and beyond . One of those dedicated members is our newly installed Central Regional Director , Soror Kiahna W . Davis , who was initiated in Spring 1997 and who this year celebrates Silver Star recognition of 25 years in our beloved sisterhood .
Tau Chapter continued its 100 years of commitment by holding a memorial balloon release , creating a time capsule to be reviewed again in 25 years ( 2047 ), and establishing a Tau Centennial Scholarship through Indiana University Foundation .
