“ Some of the Meals on Wheels volunteers and staff have saved lives . I have heard stories about a volunteer not able to get a client to answer the door or answer the phone . Our protocol is for the volunteer to call our office , and our staff calls the emergency contact . Many times , the emergency contact finds their family member where they have fallen . Most of these stories have happy endings , and that ’ s so rewarding .”
