Educational Savings Account Iowa Alliance for Choice in Education (Iowa ACE) is an organization that promotes the rights of parents to choose the best educational option for their children. They are a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to expanding school choice options in Iowa for the benefit of Iowa’s children. For the first time, Iowa’s school choice coalition introduced Educational Savings Account (ESA) legislation in the Iowa House with the help of Representatives Chris Hagenow (R-Windsor Heights), Peter Cownie (R-West Des Moines), and Jake Highfill (R-Johnson). ESAs allow parents who do not enroll their child in a public school or charter school to receive a deposit of public funds into government-authorized savings accounts with specific multiple uses. UPDATE The legislation passed out of subcommittee in early February but failed to pass out of the House Education Committee for debate this session. According to the Iowa ACE organization, the primary goal this session was to introduce the legislation, demonstrate that Iowans are behind ESAs, and answer questions. They were successful in achieving these goals and believe they are well positioned to advance this issue moving forward.
