Brazilicious...
We all love food don’t we? Although
we might not realise this, food is one
of the most distinct cultural imprints
that we have in our society. We automatically connect Italians with pizza,
Indians with curry, Chinese with noodles and Japanese with sushi. Food is
usually the first thing we learn about
a culture and so I thought it would
be appropriate to share this simple
but delicious recipe from Brazil with
you! First, let me enlighten you with
some background information...
Beijinho
Beijinho (literally translated as “little kiss”) is an
extremely popular treat
in Brazil; you will find it
in any and every birthday party you go to. Its
creator was Jose Ferreira
Mendes, a rich man who
lived in France and studied cooking at the Gâteaux et Confiseries from
1940 to 1946.Soon after
he returned to Brazil
full of new ideas! To his
disappointment, none of
his ideas were widely accepted and so he left all
his notes to his daughter
Isabelle Ferreira Arnaud
and gave up cooking. At
19, Isabella perfected her
father’s version of the
“Beijinho” which had
a sweeter taste and was
immediately accepted as
a delicious treat! Thus
came about the Beijinho.
Now, let’s get to the good
part.
