Future Nurses Don White Coats at Ceremony
The Mervyn M . Dymally School of Nursing , now known as the Mervyn M . Dymally College of Nursing ( MMDCON ), hosted the 2023 Spring Semester White Coat Ceremony for the college ’ s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program ( Cohort 3 ), Entry Level Masters Program ( Cohort 26 ), Family Nurse Practitioner Program ( Cohorts 34 and 35 ), and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program ( Cohorts 13 and 24 ). The ceremony was held on the Cobb Lawn and featured remarks from MMDCON Dean Dr . Gail Washington , representatives from CDU administration , and program directors from each program .
“ As you advance in nursing education , please embrace the challenges that follow with determination , patience , perseverance and enthusiasm ,” remarked Dean Washington . “ Learn all you can , develop your skills , become the best you as a nurse you can be . Your actions have the power to make a positive difference in the lives of so many other people . I congratulate each of you on reaching this point in your academic career .”
White coat ceremonies serve as a rite of passage for nursing students and the white coat is a symbolic garment that represents the professionalism , compassion ,
and dedication expected of nurses . Nursing students took an oath during the ceremony signifying their commitment to providing high-quality patient care and upholding the values and ethics of the nursing profession .
CDU ’ s MMDCON seeks to advance the science and art of nursing by conducting nursing research and providing nursing students with high-quality education that emphasizes the health status of underserved communities , for the purpose of enabling graduates to provide evidence-based nursing care with dignity , respect and compassion to all nursing clients .
