CDU COLLABORATES
WITH CSU , DOMINGUEZ HILLS AND U . S AFRICA INSTITUTE
CDU in collaboration with California State University , Dominguez Hills and U . S Africa Institute co-hosted 25 of Africa ’ s emerging leaders for a two-week Alumni Enrichment Institute , sponsored by the U . S . Department of State . The participants , who are alumni of the Young African Leaders Institute , are early to mid-career professionals from a diversity of professional areas . The cohort of 25 came from 22 different countries and visited Los Angeles late July to early August 2022 .
CDU VISITS ZAMBIA
THE RISE UP ! PROJECT
The Office of International Affairs and members of CDU ’ s technical staff visited Zambia , representing the US-base of the Rise Up ! Project . The purpose of the visit was to complete the aims of the PEPFAR funded grant to deliver Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( HIV ) services and psychosocial support to adolescent girls and young women in Zambia .
CUBA AND DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH STUDENTS STUDIED THE COUNTRY ’ S HEALTH SYSTEM
In March 2023 , two delegations of CDU students set out beyond our borders to pursue the University ’ s mission of creating a world without health disparities through their travels to Cuba and the Dominican Republic . While in Cuba , CDU Master of Public Health students studied the country ’ s health system , which is internationally recognized for prioritizing primary prevention and health promotion as a health strategy . CDU students and faculty who journeyed to the Dominican Republic participated in a Clinic Service Learning Trip , offering an opportunity for students to reach those in medical need with important services .
INTERNATIONAL AMBASSADORS
DISTINGUISHED VISITORS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE
Throughout the academic year , CDU served as a nexus for international engagement , hosting a series of distinguished visitors from around the globe . These visits , facilitated by the Office of International Affairs , aimed to foster connections with the CDU community , including students , faculty , staff , and alumni — the Mighty Lions . These interactions offered unique opportunities for dialogue , learning , and potential collaborations .
In February 2023 , a notable delegation from Rwanda , led by Professor Mathilde Mukantabana , Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Rwanda to the United States , graced the CDU campus .
April ' s highlight was the Diplomats on Global Health Disparities Series , featuring Deputy Chief Alejandro García del Toro and First Secretary Javier Levy Hernández from the Embassy of Cuba .
Delegates from Honduras , Nicaragua , Panama , Venezuela , and El Salvador visited in April 2023 as part of the Department of State ’ s International Visitor Leadership Program . These academic officials and educators engaged with CDU students , sharing their experiences and exploring avenues for academic collaboration .
