WHAT WE DO
3-Year, Full-Time
Professional Training Program in
Contemporary Dance
Since 2012, the Cairo Contemporary Dance Center has offered a 3-year, full-time
professional program dedicated to training contemporary dancers, choreographers,
dance teachers, and dance researchers. This education is nuanced in its recognition of
the differences between and requirements for each of these professional paths. The
program is also actively invested in building a professional community for this budding
art form in Egypt and the Arab world.
The 3-year, full-time professional training program in Contemporary Dance provides a
holistic approach to the art form. Through daily classes (five hours per day, five days a
week, for a duration of 30 months) the program provides advanced professional training in
Contemporary Dance but also in traditional techniques from different regions (martial arts,
vernacular dances, etc.), as well as theory classes.
The curriculum is composed to one third of Contemporary Dance classes and workshops. The
other two parts are divided into practical training in various dance forms (Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop,
African Dances, etc.) as well as martial arts (Aikido, Shaolin Gong Fu, Taiji, etc.); and theory
classes such as Anatomy, Performance Studies, and Biomechanics.
Guest instructors at CCDC come from the Middle East, Africa, Europe and beyond and give
the center’s students maximum exposure to the latest trends in Contemporary Dance
techniques and methodologies from all over the world, thus also paving the way for those
interested in a career in choreography.
Required Criteria for Teaching at CCDC:
1.) An accredited degree (B.A or M.A.) or certification in dance from an established and
relevant entity;
2.) A minimum of five years of serious, relevant, and regular teaching;
3.) A letter providing proof of said teaching experience;
4.) An evident body of work, where a specific artistic language has been developed, thus
possessing the capacity to transmit that personal language to students;
5.) Accreditation and professional experience in any other practical and/or
theoretical subjects to be taught as part of the program.
