who are we?
The Cairo Contemporary Dance Center (CCDC)
is an independent space for Contemporary Dance situated
in the heart of Egypt’s capital. The center hosts the first full-time
Contemporary Dance school in all of Africa and the Arab world and in
addition to this 3-year, full-time professional training program, CCDC also
offers artistic residencies, open classes, and workshops in various dance and
movement disciplines. CCDC also organizes and participates in public
performances and festivals regionally and internationally.
CCDC was founded in 2012 by Egyptian choreographer, dancer, and teacher
Karima Mansour. Both the Cairo Contemporary Dance Center (under the
umbrella of MAAT for Contemporary Art) and Karima Mansour herself are
recognized members of the UNESCO International Dance Council.
CCDC's vision
Contemporary Dance has grown its roots in the Egyptian society and is in exchange with
the world.
CCDC's mission
To become a a hub for Contemporary Dance by catering to the region specifically, but also
by actively contributing to evolutions in the fields of dance and movement on an
international level; by providing vocational trainings, open classes, a repertoire, and
employment opportunities to the steadily-growing community of performers,
choreographers, teachers, students, and audiences. CCDC also makes an effort to engage
parts of society that are otherwise less exposed to Contemporary Dance.
Our Values
The values that CCDC embodies include professionalism, respect, fairness, trust, and
personal development. All teachers and trainers at CCDC are certified and have extensive
professional experience. They are provided with a work environment where artistic quality
and social values are of the highest importance. All staff members of CCDC work and
communicate professionally with the center’s community and beyond – and they themselves
also work in an atmosphere where fairness and diversity are held in high regard. CCDC
encourages the personal development of its staff and community members’ and thus
actively building a trusting community that gathers around Contemporary Dance.
