Karima Mansour( Contemporary Dance)
Karima Mansour graduated with both a B. A. and a M. A. in
Contemporary Dance from the London Contemporary Dance School after having completed her B. A. in Film from the High Institute of Cinema at the Academy of Arts in Cairo. Upon Karima’ s return to Egypt in 1999, she founded MAAT for Contemporary Dance, the first independent dance company in the country. She has since created 20 full choreographic works that continue to be performed in various international festivals, as well as more than 20 collaborations in theater and film.
Karima is also the founder of MAAT Dance M. E. C. A( MAAT Movement for Egyptian Contemporary Art), an initiative that continues the work developed through choreographies and workshops originally taught by Karima and / or her invited guests from all over the world.
Karima also taught at the Cairo Opera Dance Theatre Company and in the years from 1999-2000 she was an assistant professor at the Ballet Institute at Cairo’ s Academy of Arts. In 2010 Karima was an Adjunct Professor of Dance at the Performance and Visual Arts Department of the American University in Cairo.
Karima is the founder and artistic director of CCDC and continues to work as a freelance choreographer, performer, and teacher nationally and internationally. In addition to running her institutions, Karima also continues to create, perform, and develop her own choreographic work and language as an artist.
