CARRIBEAN BUSINESS , THE VERY BEST IN HEALTH TECHNOLOGY COME TOGETHER OCTOBER 2013 | Page 10
A
s a result of new federal regulations and
the integration of
healthcare services information systems, laboratories increasingly need hightech ways to connect with
healthcare providers and
patients. In 2009, two successful entrepreneurs, Marcos M. Martínez and Michael
Jiménez, joined forces to
create misResultados. Combining Martínez’s 29 years
of experience working in
laboratories with Jiménez’s
25 years of experience processing electronic transactions in the healthcare industry, the two developed
misResultados.
MisResultados, a Puerto
Rican company, offers electronic connectivity services
for clinical laboratories to
communicate with healthcare providers and patients.
In the health industry, this
service is known as e-lab.
The e-lab’s purpose is to
handle electronic transmission of orders and results
from clinical tests that are
generated between the
doctors and the laboratory.
MisResultados works this
electronic transmission in
an environment that allows
the patient the freedom to
choose their preferred clinical laboratory.
When developing its services, misResultados ensured it was fully compliant
with all federal interoperability standards required
by law, and as stated in the
Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act
(HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for
Economic & Clinical Health
(HITECH) Act. Its corporate
goal is to not only provide
its e-lab service as an operationally cost-effective solution for laboratories, doctors and patients, but also
to ensure compatibility with
the various information systems involved in electronic
health information processing and exchange. These
include laboratory information systems (LIS), electronic
health records (EHR) and
systems that manage healthcare information exchange
(HIE) centers.
To date, misResultados
has processed more than
3.9 million electronic-results reports, which are the
product of the laboratories
that signed contracts for
the electronic connectivity
and transmission service for
clinical lab test orders and
results.
Patients in Puerto
Rico have access to the
results of laboratory
tests electronically
Using misResultados’ services, laboratories give patients electronic access to
their laboratory tests results.
This is possible because
misResultados offers Puerto
Rico’s healthcare industry a
safe, effective and reliable
alternative that promotes
the adoption of the new
world order for the electronic health information
exchange.
