Galle Face Hotel Hosts World VW Day 2018
The Galle Face Hotel, one of the oldest hotels in Sri Lanka with more than 150 years of history recently hosted the iconic World Volkswagen Day 2018, which was done in collaboration with the Volkswagen Beetle Owners’ Club of Sri Lanka.
The day is a worldwide celebration of one of the most legendary vehicle models ever built, the Volkswagen Beetle, and was consisted of a fun-filled day with a parade of VW Beetles storming the streets of Colombo.
Vibrant and colourful, custom-built Volkswagen Beetle cars rolled into the Galle Face Hotel near the seaside on Sunday, July 1st to kick start the day’s grand event. Mubarak Gaffoor, the Group Sales and Marketing Director of Galle Face Hotel, was chosen to flag the beginning of the rally that saw around 300 VW Beetle vehicles lined-up to show their colours.
The event included vehicles from a more classic orange, mint, red and black colour to a more prominent metallic blue and gold, and even had a custom painted car with a remarkable floral-like design.
Introduced to Sri Lanka in 1953, the now iconic car was a bit slow to catch on due to its unusual rear-engine design. However, even some of the earliest vehicles that were bought are still kept in an excellent shape.
