As the world’s oldest continuing sports car race for endurance racing, the 24 Hours of Le Mans has always been a race where the winners and losers cannot be predicted until the last leap. Keeping its reputation, this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans has also brought many surprises for both spectators as well as its contestants.
By far the biggest disappointment was faced by Toyota’s team, whom despite starting on the pole position, hitting the best lap time and even leading for nearly half the race, had to give up its hopes for victory in just 10 hours. Without a warning, the team’s two leading Toyota TS050 LMP1 cars had to be taken out of the competition in rapid succession,
