4. The history of Cantania In 2015-20146Cantania is celebrating its 27th anniversary. The project took place for the first time in the 1989-1990 school year when the music teachers of Barcelona’s 9 municipal schools wanted to do a joint activity. In 1997 it was opened to all schools in the city. In 2002 it started to spread throughout Catalonia and, finally, in 2005 the project went worldwide. The first concert was held in the Palau de la Música with 200 children and in the year 2000 they began to be held at L’Auditori, when that new musical institution was inaugurated. In between, concerts were held in the Gran Teatre del Liceu, in the Anexo del Palau Sant Jordi, in the Estación del Norte and in the MNAC. Since then it has not stopped growing, day after day.
