3. Objectives of the activity Below is a list of some of Cantania’s objectives; however, its size and diversity of areas means that specific values and objectives are constantly being discovered: • Offering the singers, teaching staff, families and professionals who take part in it an unforgettable activity. • Encouraging the integration of different cultures and abilities in the audiences that attend the concerts. • Ensuring that all the children in a school, without any kind of selection, are able to do Cantania at least once during their schooling. • Bringing an unaccustomed audience to the region’s cultural spaces and concert halls. • Giving exposure to contemporary writers and composers and introducing them to thousands of people unfamiliar with music. • Giving the daily class routine the social dimension of music, reinforcing its importance in schools and families. • Facilitating regular contact and exchange with music teachers from different schools. The scale of the work carried out, with the direct observation of each of its phases, the assessments of the participants in the different areas of the activity and the overall development of the project from when it began until the present, can be imagined. Cantania wishes to be a project open to all families without family finances being an obstacle. It aims to open up concert halls to the lay public. We therefore offer a system of grants: help for families that cannot afford the price of concert tickets, subsidising half or the whole price. 5
