2. The Cantania activity
Cantania is a participatory activity involving Catalan primary school children between 8
and 12 years old. Every year a new work is commissioned especially for the activity. To
date, the commissions have gone to renowned Catalan composers and writers, to
create works mindful of the specific characteristics of this activity:
- Large children’s choir on the stage
- Work basically in one voice
- 10 high-level music professionals
- Duration of approximately 45 minutes
Cantania is an activity with different phases of activity:
1) Training sessions with the teaching staff
2) Work done by teachers with their class
3) Final concerts performed by the pupils involved
Work is done both in the organisation and in the school throughout the school year. The
aim is to organise an event for the pupils that, on account of its overall characteristics
designed exclusively for them, its quality and their individual and collective involvement in
it, becomes an unforgettable musical experience for them all.
