Begging for spare change outside
liquor stores was not uncommon
for Dion. He truly felt there was no
hope and feared that one day he
would eventually be killed or
would die alone in the streets. By
the time he was 40 years old, he
managed to also become
addicted to meth. Weighing 113lbs
on his 40th birthday, only then he
decided and had the will to live
again.
Begging the Mighty God to give
him the strength to finally get up,
determined to fight for his life, he
left Moncton, NB to relocate to
Miramichi to live with his parents.
This gave him a chance to redeem
himself and get his life back on
track, his parents welcomed him
But at the age of 34, his road to rock bottom
began after being asked to leave a long-term
relationship due to his alcohol abuse. This only
spiraled him further out of control. He lost
everything within 6 months; his gym, his family
and his friends. Most days he didn’t want to
wake up or live. So, for 6 years, he spent most
of his life on the streets and in the bars. In and
out of jail, rehab, hospitals, churches, ideally,
those were his regular hangouts with many
cold nights...sick and hungry. He was
destroying himself, inside and out and this
disease of his addiction was taking over.
with open arms.
