In the province of Ontario , trendsetting Toronto is the heartbeat of Canadian urban life and has an impressive location beside Lake Ontario . With everything from world-class dining ( including 13 Michelin-starred restaurants ) and entertainment to major league sports , fantastic shopping , an eclectic nightlife and top-tier attractions Toronto has lots of appeal .
Just two hours drive from Toronto is the must-see Niagara Falls . Whether you glimpse them from above or from underneath , you really do have to see them somehow . Ontario is also home to Canada ’ s capital city , Ottawa , a flawless mix of charm and excitement with a crowd-pleasing list of things to see and do .
Ontario isn ’ t all about urban life , as it also has its fill of nature too . Top spots include Algonquin Provincial Park , where there ’ s canoeing , hiking and wildlife viewing ; Kingston for vibrant art , rich history and gateway to the Thousand Islands ; Muskoka for golf , amazing natural vistas and excellent local brews ; and not forgetting the stunning scenery of Manitoulin Island which nestles in the heart of the Great Lakes .
Neighbouring Québec province is where you ’ ll find big and buzzing Montréal , which is also the second largest French-speaking city in the world after Paris . In complete contrast , small and intimate Québec City is steeped in old world charm and French style ; it ’ s also the only fortified city north of Mexico .
Just 45 minutes from Montréal are the lovely Laurentian Mountains , a four-season destination of beautiful lakes , picturesque villages and exceptional ski slopes .
Take time to get to know the pretty Charlevoix region , which sits between a semi-circular range of mountains and the St Lawrence River . Charlevoix ’ cultural capital , Baie-Saint-Paul is home to museums , galleries , gourmet restaurants and lively bars . Another must-see of the region is La Malbaie , a natural amphitheatre with views of the St Lawrence .
Tadoussac nestles in one of the world ’ s most beautiful bays , at the mouth of the Fjord du Saguenay . Many marine mammals find their way to this spot and can be seen from both the shore and water . The city of Saguenay itself is as grandiose as the regions ’ landscapes and well worth a visit .
