Main Duties
The Parliamentarian ' s main duties can be split into three categories : amendments , elections , and communications . For amendments , you have to help draft them , possibly propose some of your own , and present them at the Amendments Committee Meeting at the NJCL Convention . In regard to elections , you need to create a Campaign Corner , encourage people to run for office , and manage the national elections at Convention . And on the communications side of things , you have to keep in touch with State & local parlis and assist them with all things parliamentary . While it ' s definitely a lot of work , you have a lot of flexibility in how far you take each part of the office .
How to Prepare

Firstly , make sure that you know what you ' ll be doing as the NJCL Parliamentarian , especially during your term ' s Convention . While you ' ll be going to all of the election-related events should you run for office , I strongly recommend attending the Amendments Committee Meeting to get an idea of what that ' s like , as you ' ll be leading it if you get elected .
Secondly , you should also be familiar with the NJCL ' s governing documents — the Constitution , Bylaws , and Executive Board Handbook — as that knowledge will come in handy both when campaigning and when in office . While you don ' t need to know Robert ' s Rules of Order beforehand , it definitely helps to have a basic grasp of it .
Finally , when you ' re coming up with your platform , think about something new you can do as an NJCL Parliamentarian . For example , one of the new proposals in my platform was a Let ' s Make Media ! section for the Campaign Corner to help candidates make campaign materials .
