Campaign Analysis
What was your favorite part of preparing for your campaign ?
My favorite part was developing an overarching theme for my campaign ( movies !). I loved showing my creativity by picking quotes from my favorite movies and shifting them slightly to fit my campaign .
What was your favorite campaign event ?
Candidates ’ Open Forum because it was a nice balance between explaining the serious , factual parts of my campaign while also having fun answering the ' 22- ' 23 Officers ’ silly questions ! Also , it was a nice ending to the week of campaigning because it is your last official chance to reach out to JCLers before voting .
What do you think was the strongest part of your campaign ?
I do a lot of theater , so I ' m very comfortable meeting new people and talking in front of crowds . As such , I think one of the strongest parts of my campaign was my confidence to go up to people and start a conversation .
What in your campaign would you have done differently ?
I would ' ve adjusted how I spent my budget . I spent a lot of my budget on printing supplies , like pamphlets . However , JCLers are so kind that they often only took a couple for their entire friend group , so I would have enough to give some to everyone ! While I appreciated the thoughtful gesture , I realized I could ' ve spent less on smaller items and saved that money for one or two more expensive elements instead .
What tips do you have for speeches ?
Practice in front of friends from your state or your family ! Often , I find that my talking speed changes when I ' m speaking in front of an audience versus practicing alone , so to guarantee you are well within the time limit , make sure you practice in front of others .
What ’ s one suggestion you have for candidates running for your office ?
For any candidates , utilize your state ! Nationals is a huge event , and there are only so many places you can be . Having friends that help you campaign makes a big difference in spreading your message to as many JCLers as possible .
