Discussing Options and Possibilities

If interested in running for office, it is important to research the process of running for national office and everything expected of you if elected to feel more comfortable with the entire process. As soon as you have decided, discuss the process with your local sponsor, state, and parent(s) as you will need their approval for running for office. Make sure to contact your state chair(s) to determine your state’s process or your provincial process for choosing a candidate to run for national office. Only one candidate per state or province may run, so many states have applications, elections, or other forms of choosing between multiple candidates or approving one candidate to run.

Filing for office

After you have been through the necessary processes of approval (and been approved) to run as a national candidate from your state, you will need to fill out the “NJCL Nomination Forms” found on the "Candidates for NJCL Office" section of the NJCL website and email me the form at [email protected] by June 15, 2022. If running for the office of president, you will also need to fill out Form P, which can be found in the Chapter Handbook and on the NJCL website by June 15, 2022 as well. I will email all candidates who are eligible to run for office and who have turned in all forms on time a list of the number of prefiled candidates in each office on June 20, 2022. After this email has been sent out, candidates may change the position they filed for by June 30, 2022. I will then send out another email to all candidates noting any change in the number of candidates running in each position. If you have any questions or are having trouble with the forms, feel free to email me and I will provide a copy of them for you. I am here for you every step of the election process and will be there to answer all of your questions to the best of my abilities. I will be sending emails detailing the process and further campaigning rules and regulations that may be subject to change.
