NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING
The Nominations Committee Meeting is where candidates in a run-off election (ie. 3 or more people filed for an office) must give a maximum two minute speech on their platform, experience, reasons for running, etc. You may strategize accordingly on the information you would like to include in this speech and the information you would like to include in your speech at General Assembly III. Candidates NOT in a run-off election must give a maximum one minute speech, introducing themsleves and their platform. Delegates from each state, sponsors, and others will be in attendance. Based on candidates’ speeches, voting delegates will choose two candidates to run for each office and place on the final ballot. Your local sponsor or sponsor’s representative must be present at this event. Immediately following the meeting, candidates must turn in all campaign receipts and campaign materials to the NJCL parliamentarian for review. Campaigning begins after the conclusion of this event.
MEET THE CANDIDATES
Meet the Candidates is a more relaxed question and answer event with minimal seating and stations for each candidate so that JCLers are free to walk around and ask candidates questions. Be prepared for a wide variety of questions, but make sure to have fun and meet some new people. There will be room for each candidate to hang signs and decorate your area so if you have signs, bring them. N.B. Bring extra water to this event as you will be talking a lot and your throat might get dry.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY III
The majority of this general assembly is devoted to candidate speeches. You will have the chance to share your platform, ideas, and experience to all or if not a majority of those at the convention. There will be NO introduction speakers. Make sure your speech comes within three minutes. Remember to breathe and relax. You have got this!
CANDIDATES' OPEN FORUM
The Candidates' Open Forum is an event where all of the candidates are asked questions which are submitted by the states, provinces, and the current officers. Candidates are asked their questions in front of a crowd of delegates from each state province. After the Candidate's Open Forum, all delegates will return to a mandatory fellowship afterward where voting will take place.
GENERAL ASSEMBLIES IV & V
During General Assembly IV, the results of the election are announced and those elected take the stage. If elected, be ready for pictures after General Assembly IV with the current officers. At General Assembly V, the newly elected officers will be sworn in. Be sure to bring a nice toga or tunica for this assembly. The newly elected and sworn in President will have to give an inauguration speech and introduce the theme of next year’s convention at General Assembly V as well.
