ADVICE FOR SECOND VICE PRESIDENT CANDIDATES
2ND VICE PRESIDENT'S MOST IMPORTANT DUTIES
HOW TO PREPARE FOR OFFICE
Know your campaign inside out. You are going to have to answer questions throughout Convention–Meet the Candidates, Candidates Open Forum, questions from voting delegates, etc–so being able to answer immediately, concisely, and informatively is crucial to being a successful candidate. Have all of your campaign resources prepared before Convention: Flyers, buttons, Instagram graphics (don’t post them or have a campaign account until after "Nom Com!"), or whatever other resources you want to have a cohesive campaign. You want to spend most of your fairly-limited time connecting with other JCLer’s, not designing materials alone in your room.
If there is one trait you need more than any for Second Vice-President, it’s creativity. You need to be able to think outside the box to create new, exciting spirit themes and service activities that will be fun for everyone. I recommend being very familiar with Canva before getting elected, as I found it very helpful to create the COTM Packet, NCW Packet, and all of my Instagram posts in this free program.
The Second Vice President is responsible for the Spirit and Service across the NJCL. Your first few months in office will be primarily focused on creating the Club of the Month themes, the COTM submission form, and the spirit and dance themes at Convention. Then, you will work with the 1st Vice President to plan National Classics Week (and Classicalia if you choose to continue it). The latter half of your term will be centered around planning the spirit and service events at Convention: Roll Call, Spirit, the national service project, and your officer colloquium.
