Your first priority to the NJCL is recording and editing minutes. As these are sent not only to your fellow officers, but also the entire adult committee, perfecting them is essential. Your next priority as CoCo is the website contest. Updating the rules when you get into office and reviewing entries monthly is necessary. Lastly, if you are elected, make sure you fulfill as many of your campaign promises as possible. The JCL elected you in part for your campaign, and following through on promises made is a great way to thank them for their vote.
The first state election I ever ran in, I lost miserably. No one from my school had ever run in a regional election, nevermind a state one. I had no idea what I was doing, and I wrote my speeches in the hotel the night before I spoke. If you find yourself in a similar situation, I recommend firstly writing your speeches well in advance. Public speaking is difficult and the last thing you want is to be unprepared. Secondly, go into an election with passion, but also confidence. If you believe you are the best candidate, and have done your best job in preparing for your intended role, you have a much better chance at winning.
Accustom yourself with the website contest rules and system, and if possible, submit an entry yourself. Being familiar with the ins and outs of your domain is important when running. As well, I fully recommend taking an online minutes course. The National Association of Parliamentarians offers a certification course for decently cheap, but there are tons of free alternatives on the web, including many JCL guides! This last point isn’t necessary, but I have found learning how to make websites so helpful. CoCo can be a difficult role because it combines two positions: Webmaster and Secretary. Learning as much as you can about both roles is very beneficial. Code.org has tons of resources to begin coding. Good luck and get prepared!
