Signs: The ever useful poster board signs never fail to make a statement. Plain old poster board or construction paper can help you get noticed. Putting a picture of yourself can make people remember you.

Flyers: Similar to the signs, flyers can contain information more specific than signs. They can help summarize your ideas when you campaign personally.

Chalk: Chalk may be used on streets and sidewalks which are designated as

acceptable by the university. Find the paths well-traveled and scribble away! Creating chalk drawings with delegates can help create friendships.

Pencils: Not a common tactic, but pencils handed right before academic tests are great ways to make an impression on JCLers and to really get the point across.

T-Shirts: Find old t-shirts and use duct tape or paint your slogans on them. Have your friends wear them and spread the word!

CAMPAIGNING 101

advice on running a successful campaign

The trick to running a successful campaign is to mold it to your personality. Find a central theme or angle to present yourself so delegates can learn to associate certain ideas with you. Use your favorite colors (or purple and gold), a pop culture icon, or different media to create your campaign. You need to find a balance between information and personality to reach out to the 2,000 people that attend convention. Here are some basic ideas:

Stickers: Stickers (or clothespins) are an absolute must, coming in every size and shape. Most word processors can make them easily, or you can spend time hand-making them. Stickers can serve as reminders. Nevertheless, when using stickers, be responsible about where you place them. Stickers should NOT be on school property.

Of course, simply handing out fancy flyers and stickers will not win over delegates. Be informed and share your ideas with a smile!
