(Why am I so Anxious? continued from previous page)
Generalized Anxiety is quite common. This disorder fills a
person’s life with worry, anxiety, and fear. People are always
thinking and dwelling on the “what ifs” of every situation. It
feels like there is no way out of the vicious cycle of anxiety
and worry. This person may become depressed about their
inability to stop worrying. The person with generalized anxiety
may feel an inability to shut the mind off, and are overcome
with feelings of worry, dread, fatigue, and a loss of interest
in normal activites. People may experience up and down
moods that can severely disrupt the quality of life.
People with generalized anxiety disorder often have physical
symptoms including headaches, irritability, frustration,
trembling, inability to concentrate, and sleep disturbances.
WHAT can I do if I have anxiety? Most people who suffer from
anxiety begin to feel better when they receive the proper
treatment. There is no one proper treatment, because
each person’s anxiety is caused by a unique set of factors.
Treatments utilized include counseling, relaxation training,
exercise, and medication.
Calvary Church offers a support group that may be a good
place to start if you have anxiety – the Calvary Cares group
meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at
1:30pm. It is a great group of people supporting each other
for many different issues.
