2-12 Catholic School Leaders as Ministers of Faith and Agents of Hope – Dr. Brian Robert Taberski Catholic School Leaders as Ministers of Faith and Agents of Hope will provide a framework and points to consider as the Catholic school and its leaders find themselves living in a world experiencing globalization, exponential access to information, unbridled technological advancements, a crisis in the Environment, and a Church responding to crisis. 2-15 Preparing Masses With Children, Not For Children – Michael Ruzicki This workshop will assist school teachers (and others) in teaching children the language of the liturgy by including them in the preparation of the Mass. Doing so will reinforce their Catholic identity by breaking open the Word, selecting music, preparing liturgical environment, and serving in liturgical ministries. Participants will gain (or improve) the tools necessary for collaboration and communication while knowing they are doing the “right thing” liturgically. (Worship) 2-16 How Green is Green – Father Chris Bennett How to maintain an appropriate environment, through the use of signs, symbols and rituals in Ordinary Time. Utilizing seasonal traditions of the liturgical year. (Worship) Session 300 12:15 PM–1:15 PM, FRIDAY 3-01 Introducing Build. Plant. Grow. – Kathy Almazol Build. Plant. Grow is a free faith formation program for schools, parishes, and families. Engaging lesson plans pair scriptural readings with children’s literature to promote the spiritual and character development of children ages 5 -13. Parents are also welcomed to learn how to incorporate this program for their family faith formation time. All three cycles of the gospels for the liturgical seasons are available. Modifications are made as necessary due to the movable calendar of our holy days. (Word) 3-02 Implementing Laudato Si’ in the Primary Classroom – Laura Barker This session will provide an overview of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si’ On Care for Our Common Home and its implications for teaching primary grade students in school and faith formation. The session will also provide concrete examples and resources to incorporate into lesson plans across multiple subjects. Finally, the session will motivate participants to be a witness and to take a leadership position on caring for God’s creation. (Witness) 3-03 Disciple Power: Nurturing Young Disciples to Put Their Faith into Action – Nancy Bird What can we do to foster the spiritual development of adolescents? What can we do to help them develop skills, practice habits and strengthen their faith to live as disciples of Jesus in today’s world? Join us for a lively and practical workshop to help your learners grow in their relationship with Jesus, accept the demands of discipleship, and choose each day to live as disciples! (Witness) 3-04 The Art of Accompaniment – Maria Covarrubias The Art of Accompaniment in our faith is a sacred life-giving dynamic where the fragrance of Christ closeness and his personal gaze is experienced. In the road to Emmaus, Jesus teaches us the model of accompaniment that caused for the disciples’ eyes to be opened. Come and join in deepening the understanding of what Pope Francis is urgently callings us in this art accompaniment and learn key aspects of accompanying others in their faith journey. (Witness) 14 3-05 The Classroom Teacher as a Missionary Disciple – Terry Cotting-Mogan The goal of most subjects taught by a classroom teacher is to pass on facts. While passing on facts in your Religion class is important the goal here is to form practicing Catholics. Come explore practical ways that you can be a missionary disciple helping to evangelize your students and their families. (Witness) 3-06 Adults at the Center: Understanding the Adult Journey of Faith – Douglas Leal Our world and our faith demand an adult Christianity. Growth beyond a faith that may have served us well in youth is necessary to meet the demands of adult lives and our contemporary world, if we are to truly be disciples of Christ. Putting adults at the center of formation requires first that we understand what an “adult growing in faith” looks like, and how we might support that growth in ourselves as well. (Witness) 3-07 Sustaining Hope – Using reading skills to break open scripture for students – Jordan Lewis At the end of this workshop, Parish Catechetical Leaders and Catechists will have seen and brainstormed strategies to ensure that students with lower reading levels can access scripture and participate in discussions. (Word) 3-08 Encountering Christ with Young People in Our Parishes and Schools – Corinne Monogue Discover how the new USCCB pastoral response to Asian and Pacific Catholics, Encountering Christ in Harmony, can assist in your outreach and relationship with all youth and young adults as they face/navigate different cultural realities. This session will include framework and ideas for leaders to use in parish and school settings. (Witness) 3-09 “Take Five”: Basic Principles for Cultivating Catechists – Jayne Mondoy Cultivating catechists takes so much more than holding a series of meetings throughout the year. It is an act of stewardship and a way of being expressed through a set of guiding principles that speak to mission, parameters, empowerment, recognition, and engagement. Let’s “Take Five” together! (Word) 3-11 Igniting the Hearts of a New Generation: Engaging and Accompanying Younger Disciples! – Maureen Provencher Children, today, think differently. Their interests and needs vary. They learn in a variety of different ways. Together, we’ll delve more deeply into the mystery of understanding and embracing this generation and their gift to us. Then, we’ll look to effective approaches that are practical, fun, inviting, and achievable, to effectively engage them and nurture their hearts in faith and love. (Word) 3-12 Sharing Faith in Everyday Ways – Janèt Sullivan Whitaker We are called to bear witness to the saving presence of Christ in our lives. This presentation explores everyday ways in which we can more generously share our faith with others, through Christian hospitality, gratitude, and sincere attentiveness. (Witness) 3-15 Celebrating Children’s Liturgy of the Word – Lesa Truxaw How can you help children participate and understand scripture that is proclaimed at Mass? Should you be offering children a separate experience of the Word proclaimed at Sunday Mass? When can you use the Children’s Lectionary? We will explore Church Documents regarding the participation of children at Mass as well as the pastoral implications.
