(Word) 2-03 Experience the Joy of Growing as a Missionary Disciple Through Participating in Sunday Mass – Father Kenneth Boyack, CSP This presentation will highlight ways to prepare for Mass, enter more fully into the celebration, and leave Mass committed to “Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.” The presentation will include an overview of Living the Eucharist, a Lenten spiritual renewal ministry that helps Catholics experience the joy of the Gospel through coming to know the risen Christ more personally in the Eucharist. (Witness) 2-04 Stop the Stampede: How Engaging Parents Can Keep Kids in the Church – Paul Canavese Study after study identifies parents as the most important factor in whether children will remain Catholic. Today the church needs us to become influencers who can convince parents why Mass and our faith has value. Learn how to speak their language, harness their motivations, and coach them to share faith with their children. Gain strategies and tools for attracting and influencing parents—especially around the touch point of First Eucharist—so Christ and the church can make a real difference in their lives. (Word/Worhsip/Witness) 2-05 Faith Formation Ideas, Activities, and Strategies with a Middle Grade Mindset – John Collins Despite the challenges (and opportunities) at this age level, students need (and want) to be engaged in learning, even though behaviors and attitudes may indicate they don’t want to be there. It’s not about reading a text, but providing an environment and experiences in which young people learn about their Catholic Identity…from you. This session will provide suggestions, ideas, and strategies for faith formation with middle grade students in mind. (Word) 2-06 How to Teach Faith with Fiction – Jared Dees People learn best through story. This is why Jesus preached with parables. Likewise, young people enjoy reading fiction today much more than their textbooks. So, how do we help teach them to have faith using the stories they love most? Using ideas from novels, short stories, fables, parables, and other forms of fiction, Jared Dees will offer a series of strategies to connect fiction with faith formation. (Word) 2-07 Classroom Management – Josie Logonria Pope Francis’ vision for Catechesis is to pass on the joyful message of the ‘Kerygma.” This joy is found in the foundation of Christian Life as Pope Francis eloquently describes; “Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.” Evanageli Gaudium I invite you to come and share three techniques to model “Kerygma,“ bringing the message of the Christian life and joy into your classrooms. (Witness) 2-08 Growing Roots – Brenda Noriega “I am not religious. I prefer to consider myself spiritual” is the increasing repetitive answer we hear from young people in the United States. The increasing numbers of young people going away from the church is alarming. However, there is hope. Although young adults are leaving the Church, they are still seeking for a community to grow spiritually. During this workshop, we will explore recommendations from Pope Francis to reach out and engage the disaffiliated helping them to be rooted in Christ. (Witness) 2-09 The Mundane Mercy of Catholic Faith Life – Timothy O’Malley Family life is often nearly absent from such advertising, since it’s far too mundane to cultivate consumer desire. In this session, we’ll see how Catholic family life can function as a medicine against consumer desire insofar as we cultivate the disposition to see God acting within the context of the mundane. Participants in this workshop will walk away with five ideas for doing catechesis on the Christian family that avoids the kind of idealism that often sneaks in when teaching about the family in the Church. (Witness) 2-10 It’s Not The Down, It Is The Out – Planning Successful Retreats – Catherine Mifsud Heller Much like jumping off a cliff, planning retreats can be terrifying, exhilarating or both. From what ice breakers to use and when to use them, organizational tactics, to strategies for forming retreat leaders, this session will offer concrete ideas and sharing of best practices. [Catechists and Campus Ministers are both invited to attend]. (Witness) 2-11 Bring New Hope to Your Ministry A New Approach to Getting, Keeping and Surviving Volunteers – Anna Scally Discover the “hidden gems” in your community. Grow your ministry by uncovering real ways to understand true needs and gifts of those you are trying to teach. This workshop will include five strategies that will result in more volunteers for your ministry. Real volunteers have more than time; they have hope and heart.
