AUGUST 2018 2 Th 3:10,11 “For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.” team that was with him (Acts 20:34). The Old Testament patriarch, Jacob too served his father-in-law day and night, in summer and in winter. When we work like this, our sleep would be sweet. We should not report late to the office that we work. We see that when people are not diligent in their work, they neither come up in life nor allow others to come up. “Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much” (Ecc 5:12). The Word of God says that the lazy people do an eye- service. They just make a show in front of the manager or a higher official. Note the following verse: Eph 6:5,6 “Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people- pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart”. Such a kind of laziness leads to sinful living and poverty. The Bible also warns us that we should not love sleep. Prov20:13 -“Love not sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes, and you will have plenty of bread.” Jesus labored hard. Paul travelled a lot. They all worked hard. Many do not get sleep during the night time. They watch television in the night and cannot sleep. But the Word of God says that the sleep of a laborer will be sweet. We need to physically labour in order to get good sleep. We need not take any sleeping doses. If our job is confined to an office, then we need to have brisk walking or cycling as our regular routine. 3. Being Holy In Our Work Dan 6:4 “Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him.” Daniel served under four different kings. He was well-versed in the affairs of the kingdom. It was almost 60 years since he came to Babylon. Out of the 120 governors of the kingdom king Darius planned to make Daniel the sole administrator of the entire province (Dan 6:1). Whenever any person is considered for a big promotion like this, he will become an object of jealousy. All of Daniel's contemporaries conspired against him. They tried to find fault in the life of Daniel, but could not find even one. Daniel's position and influence was such that he could have favoured any person. But Daniel was blameless. Daniel was not only blameless before God but also was faithful to the king (Dan 6:22). We need to maintain an impeccable character in our office and business. We find Daniel and his friends learning a new language and literature in a strange land after they left Judah for Babylon. After three years the King found them to be ten times better than their Babylonian counterparts (Dan 1:20). Daniel and his friends would have worked hard during those years. They were not idle or lazy. Many of us put boundaries for God to work in our lives. We say, 'This is enough', 'This ministry is enough' and 'This mark is enough.' Such people can never do great things for the Lord. Here God says that we are His witnesses. We are to witness for Him with regard to the Salvation that He has given us; the diseases that He has healed us from; the promotions that He has given us. We should not imitate the Gentiles (Eph 4:17) . We are to be the followers of Christ. Apostle Paul worked hard not to become a burden for others. He not only provided for himself but also for the Job 16:19 - “Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and he who testifies for me is on high.” Isa 43:12 “I declared and saved and proclaimed, when there was no strange god among you; and you are my witnesses,” declares the Lord. page 04
