TENOVUS’ GOODNIGHT WALK RETURNS
A night-time fundraising walk that
raised over £40,000 for Tenovus,
Wales’ leading cancer charity, last
year is returning to the streets of the
capital city on Sat 17 May.
Registration has opened and the
charity is urging people to get their
places before they miss out. Last
year Cardiff City FC club captain
Mark Hudson and BBC Weatherman
Derek Brockway set walkers on their
way around the Welsh capital, all
walking to raise money to support
cancer patients and their families
in communities in Wales. Tenovus
doesn’t just stop at late night walks,
they are also recruiting teams to take
on the UK’s most popular mountain
challenge event: the National Three
Peaks Challenge. The charity is
looking for teams of between 6-8
walkers (and 2 drivers) to attempt to
climb three of the highest peaks in
the UK, all within 24 hours.
This demanding event challenges
participants to walk 25 miles, climb
to a height of 10,000ft and travel 450
miles between mountains! By taking
part, you can raise vital funds to help
Tenovus to support thousands of
people affected by cancer, across
Wales.

ART ACROSS THE CITY
ART
The creative flourishes of Swansea’s arts scene spills out of the galleries
and onto the streets as the annual Art Across The City celebrations come
around again, with 24 new artworks popping up (and sometimes sticking
round permanently) as part of the festival.
The event’s furthest-reaching exhibit is the Tawe Mega Poem: an
interactive verse collectively written as part of an online campaign.
People from over the world each write a single line (each a maximum of
a Twitterable 140 characters) following on from the one before it, with the
result appearing as an exhibition in its own right.
Many of the other exhibitions are also inspired by the Dylan Thomas
centenary celebrations, meaning that poetry is the focal point of this
year’s festival. That said, many of the artworks find inspiration elsewhere,
building from the local culture of Swansea and its environs, including
its wartime history and biospheres. Art Across The City opens with live
performances at its launch event at the National Waterfront Museum. LW

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!
MUSIC
The BBC tries to overturn some of the elitist associations of
classical music by giving the audience a say in what they hear,
as part of NOW It’s Your Turn!. Conductor Grant Llewellyn brings
together the proceedings by the National Orchestra Of Wales,
which presents a fun introduction to classical music for parents
and children alike. The orchestra will be offering workshops for
the young and giving members of the audience the chance to sit
amongst the orchestra while they play. To demonstrate just what
young musicians can do, and encourage others to pick up an
instrument, some of Wales’ future stars will also perform.
The award-winning National Orchestra have performed on many
BBC productions, including Doctor Who and Human Planet,
providing another way in to those a little daunted by orchestral
music. Prices are very affordable to reflect the inclusive atmosphere
the orchestra wishes to create. LW
