roundup WHAT’S ON OUR RADAR THIS MONTH. Q&A FASCINATING AÏDA With their new show Charm Offensive making its way to Porthcawl, the glamorous ladies of Fascinating Aïda show there’s more to comedy cabaret than sequins and rude words. When did you first decide to create Fascinating Aïda? Dillie Keane: I didn’t. It crept up on me and hijacked my life when I wasn’t looking! I was singing with friends, we did bits here and there, suddenly we needed a name because we were getting gigs and the next thing Fascinating Aïda was in existence. Thirty-one LONG years ago… Did any of you imagine you would have a career in comedy cabaret? Liza Pulman: I had always intended to be an actress but I detoured into opera where I stayed for several years. In the end comedy got the better of me and I ended up in my spiritual home, Fascinating Aïda, with like-minded lunatics!! Fascinating Aïda has been going on for over 30 years now, how do you keep the act fresh? Adele Anderson: By writing new material. It will be a long time before there is a Fascinating Aida Greatest Hits tour. DK: I think people love our sheer cheek, and the fact that we are musically very solid means the songs are always comfortable on the ear. LP: We are all three great big children! We are all terribly naughty and laugh a lot, both on stage and off. To me, as soon so we stop laughing it’ll be time to hang up our sequins. What can people expect from the new show Charm Offensive? DK: Charm and offense in equal measure… what else? Listen, trying to explain a Fascinating Aïda song is as bad as trying to explain someone else’s joke. Suffice it to say there’s a wonderful mix of old and new. Come along and find out in person! AA: More wit, cutting-edge lyrics and uber-glamour than you can shake a stick at. LP: Laughter, silliness, bravery and four-letter words sung in glorious three-part harmony. The Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl, Sat 5 Apr. Tickets: £17.50£19.50.
