2025 Reef-wide target :
To protect at least 99 per cent of aquatic species at end-of-catchments .
The pesticide risk condition in the Burdekin region in 2021 and 2022 indicates 98.4 per cent and 94.6 per cent of aquatic species were protected from the harmful effects of pesticides .
While these results represent the overall risk for all catchments in this region , some catchments had a much lower level of protection and will require considerably larger improvements to meet the target .
In 2022 , the Burdekin , Black and Ross catchments experienced a lower risk than the Burdekin region as a whole , while the Haughton catchment experienced a higher risk . The Don catchment had insufficient data to calculate the pesticide risk condition in 2022 .
