The fine sediment load leaving catchments showed a cumulative reduction of 19.3 per cent to June 2022 and a modelled average annual reduction of 0.5 per cent ( approximately 17 kilotonnes ) from July 2020 to June 2022 .
These results were achieved through streambank and gully protection in the Lower Burdekin and Bowen rivers , and improved grazing land management practices in the upper Burdekin and Suttor catchments .
No sediment target exists for the Haughton catchment . The aim is to maintain the current water quality so there is no increase in fine sediment load .
