I am a 21 year old from West Sussex . Being within a 15 minute drive of Goodwood has meant that attending race meetings has been something that I have done from a very young age with not only my friends but my parents and grandparents too . I didn ’ t really believe that racing would be anything more than just a hobby until I was made aware of the scheme whilst attending a careers day at my University , UCFB . After hearing all of the details I knew instantly that the programme was something that I wanted to explore and I am incredibly grateful to be given this incredible opportunity . Having completed a finance based course , I am very excited to learn more about the current funding formula of the sport as well as exploring what impact the governments white paper proposals will have on the future of British Racing during my placement at the HBLB . In terms of my future ambitions , I would love to play a part in making sure that the racing business model continues to be sustainable in what is a challenging economic environment so that future generations are able to enjoy the sport in the same way that I am able to now . In order for the sport to continue to be sustainable , it is important that younger audiences are attracted to come racing so if there is any part I can play in helping that process then I would love to do so .

Applying for the Development Programme has been on my radar for a few years now , and as someone who ’ s not from a racing background , it is a perfect opportunity to involve myself in an industry that I have loved for a long time . I can ’ t wait to surround myself with like minded people with a passion for racing and learn from my experiences and others . I am looking for this programme to give me a platform to find where my skillset best fits into the racing industry ; I am eager to find a career path where I can add as much as possible to the sport I love . I have recently completed a philosophy dissertation defending horse welfare in racing through an ethical lens , and I am keen to continue to develop racing by trying to educate as many of my non-racing peers as I can , to help get more people into the sport and become the future generations of horse-lovers that racing needs .
