FURTHER
CONCEPT MODELLING.
To continue experimenting with concept models, I created a second model
incorporating the existing stone pillars inside. This allowed me to explore
concepts that work with the site and create several design plans that interact
with each pillar. This process began with wrapping ribbon around the nave of
the church, as it allowed me to start initial design starting points, zoning several
areas.
The second material I experimented with was thin metal wires. I found this
an interesting material to work with, as the linear shapes were easy to bend
around the pillars and create abstract patterns. The zig zag shapes that were
formed reflected on the idea of dividing the zones with a fragmented approach,
This stage of the development motivated me to progress further with a similar
approach using a different material.
The third and final material I experimented with inside the structural concept
model was string. I found this approach interesting as I was able to create
linear shapes, which when explored further, began to create interesting zones.
The idea of the centre being divided into a fragments to form a community
is an interesting concept, which may be recognised by the users of the space.
