Art Makes a Difference in Guayaguayare R . C . School with BGTT support : Read to Rise & UWI

PUBLIC ART PROJECT
& 3 building Relationships for Public Art Project
Bridge Foundation , funded by BGTT implements Read to Rise project , and works in partnership with UWI Public Art project under the direction of Professor Ken Crichlow , and his staff , Lecturer Lesley-Ann Noel and Coordinator David Collymore . The project makes books come alive through art in classrooms in Standard 1 , 2 , and 3 in Guayaguayare R . C . school . The Public Art Project initiated for Read to Rise , is part of the Visual Arts Department of Creative and Festival Arts and Faculty of Humanities and Education .
The Read to Rise programme is in its second year of operation in Guayaguayare . Children are introduced to a diversity of books within an improved classroom environment conducive for reading and learning .
The Read to Rise classroom is freshly painted with wooden cases strategically placed for book placement . Books are taken off the shelves for children to rotate in classrooms and are used by special guests who visit to bring context to their reading .
UWI students , 46 in total are working in partnership with Bridge Foundation to create special art-centered projects to reinforce what children have read in the classroom and to create sustainable art projects that support the vision of creating child-centered learning environments .
In 2013 , UWI Public Art Project based their art projects on a story read in the Children ’ s Bocas stories and created wonderful works of art .

This year , 2014 , Bridge and UWI agreed to work on sustainable art projects that will offer messages of community and family support in learning and reading .

UWI Public Art project is part of the positive reinforcement activities of the Read to Rise programme which increases students understanding of books read and motivates students to read through art-focused engagement activities .
