The leaves are changing and the days are growing shorter, soon I will be bitching about the cold and snow but, in the meantime, enjoy what is left of the memory of summer. If you have not heard, this rag won Second Place for small chapter newsletter award from the "Mothership", the BCCA. Please, please, sit down and stop clapping, I got business to talk about! This award was announced at Canvention in Milwaukee (more on that party later) and was accepted on behalf of the chapter by the esteemed Tom T. It is my view that, this is no small feat as we compete against many other chapters and is quite an honor. So, please contribute an article or two next time and let’s see if we can get first place next year!!! Now, onto Canvention and some random thoughts. This was our 16th Canvention, our first was 1991 in Santa Clara, CA. Canvention is always a grand time to renew old friendships and make new, drink beer and swap stories, I mean BS. Our son Charles came with this time, a motivating factor for him was Wisconsin law, which states anyone under 21 can drink legally in bars with their parents. Yes, he had a good time; in fact he helped drag the old man back to his room one night. Here are some numbers; Miller Caves on the tour there were over 1000 attendees and about 700 tables of breweriana. Wow!! Canvention is a whirlwind of activity, like a rock overturned to reveal a disturbed ant hill, if you will. Among the many activities, one of my favorites is the Rusty Bunch dump, which consists of dumping out thousands of rusty/unwanted beer cans into a pile and people jump in to dig and elbow each other for their treasures. Need to give a shout out to Joe Germino, (he is from Na’ Jersey and attended Stubiefest a few years ago) he donated 12 full bottles of skanky old beer for the antique beer tasting coming in December. I have examined Miller tap room these specimens and they look worthy and quite tasty. Well.... maybe not. Seen a beer can (Apache beer cone top ) that was priced at 28 grand, first time I have ever seen that can in person, I passed on buying it. There was other more affordable stuff to choose from, like a Pabst tray for 30 bucks that I bought. We attended Micro night, which brought a large head the next morning. Canvention is an experience you will never forget and this one was a great time as usual. Continued on page 9 Page 8
