I ask him about his own boxing style and if he based it on anyone in particular growing up. Strangely, for a pro boxer, he doesn’t watch a lot of boxing on TV. His opinion is that currently too many fighters avoid each other and not enough exciting contests are made by promoters and managers. ‘My boxing hero growing up was Arturo Gatti’ he says, ‘it wasn’t the fact that he’d stand and trade with any of his opponents, it was more to do with the fact that he was so brave and had a massive heart. He never gave up.’ Anyone seeing any of Gaynor’s fights would acknowledge that this trait has rubbed off on him enormously. Never overawed by an opponent, he is always keen to dominate and is a very aggressive fighter, predominantly fighting off of the front foot.

If you don’t know who Chad Gaynor is, you soon will. His next fight is on 22nd February at the Magna Centre in Rotherham on the undercard of Nav Mansouri v Max Maxwell. Get on board now and become a fan - he’s going all the way. That way you can say you were there at the start.
