U3A’s Biggest Morning Tea Members of U3A Roma were treated to a convivial morning of company and coffee when they attended the Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser for Cancer Council Queensland at the Royal Hotel last month. Twenty-three members enjoyed a social morning of fun, food and friendship as well as raising money for the Cancer Council. A number of raffles were conducted, the prizes being merchandise from Cancer Council Queensland. Members were very happy with their prizes of mugs, tea towels and an apron. A total of $182.20 was raised by this very generous group of U3A members. Thank-you to all who attended our Biggest Morning Tea and helped to raise funds for this very worthy cause. We have all been touched in one way or another by the scourge of cancer, so it is wonderful to be able to provide funds to assist in any way to reduce the prevalence of this disease. Muckadilla Centenary planning to gather photos and memorabilia of Muckadilla people, properties and businesses and have an old fashioned country dance at night. B REAST C ANCER S UPPORT G ROUP The Support Group Lunch will resume on July 24, 2019. Lunches are held on the 4th Wednesday of the month. 1. Roma Bridge Club brief Roma Bridge Club was successful in obtaining funding from the Maranoa Regional Council Community Grants Program to run a two day workshop. The Club is also very proud of members Jane Gordon and Heather Scott who placed 49th in the recent Australian Restricted Pairs competition. Terrific effort! Hand, Heart, Pocket visit Gary Mark from Brisbane and Greg Shaw from Toowoomba visited Roma as a follow up to the recent grant of $250,000 to the Dementia Unit of Pinaroo Roma to explain how Hand, Heart, Pocket works. Local lodge members were informed of how the Charity and Benevolent Organisation of Queensland Freemasons can assist Roma and other towns in the Maranoa. During the 2019-20 year, attention is being given to Youth at Risk. 2. Linda Hacker from Roselea Merino Stud Muckadilla chaired a Meeting of the Muckadilla Community Association at the Roselea Homestead in June. The purpose of the meeting was to form a committee to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the opening of the Muckadilla Hall on September 19, 2020. This follows recent extensive renovations and painting to the kitchen, supper room, annexe and Muckadilla community meeting at Roselea exterior of the Hall arranged by Secretary, Donna Sutton. Several people gave up their time to be at Moorelands Nursery during June to assist run the biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for Cancer Australia. Several activities including a cent auction.
