Injune They’re Racing Community members turned out in numbers and style at this year’s Injune Churches Together Melbourne Cup luncheon. A complimentary bubbles on arrival, fine buffet dining and locally modelled Amanda’s Choice fashions were there to be enjoyed alongside ‘on the field’ dress awards, market stalls, race watching, sweeps and multi-draw raffles. In the main draw Megan Thomas took home the Weber BBQ while Bruce Sorensen and Keeley Sorensen won the meal vouchers from the hotel and the bowling club. Sue Telford and Bruce Sorensen were awarded best dressed female and male. The churches committee as one vow and declare this year’s cup day to be one of the best. A resounding thank you to all who attended and supported the day - your generosity is greatly appreciated. Also in racing news the Cultural Heritage Injune Preservation Society (CHIPS) has been researching the history of racing in Injune for the Centenary (2022) book. A newspaper clipping from the Western Star in March 1921 stated: “Good nominations have been received for the Injune Creek race meeting on Easter Monday and Tuesday next. Twenty horses have been paddocked and a similar number have been entered for other events.” CHIPS also has a photo of the judge’s box at the Injune races from the 1930s and would love to know who the 1. men are. If you can identify them please contact CHIPS at 1. Injune Arts Update Two Injune locals have recently been recognised for their commitment to the community. Congratulations to Ashley McKay who received his Medal of the Order of Australia (AOM) at a ceremony in Brisbane during October. Ashley and Doris have been stalwarts of the Australian Campdraft Association since its inception and continue to be involved with the sport. Also in the lime- light is Clem Faulkner who was awarded a service medal for forty years of service to the SES. During this time Clem progressed from the position of member to Group Leader. He has been trained in abseiling, flood boat rescue and motor vehicle road accident rescue through to general assistance for call outs for ambulance, fire and police. Our community is richer for both Clem and Ashley. If you would like to follow in Clem’s footsteps the Injune SES is currently looking for new members.
