All Saints 130th Anniversary
Amby Branch QCWA
Members will meet this month at the Amby
Hall for our meeting and then plan to have a
craft session to make Ball Lights with Nicole
Green demonstrating the technique. There
maybe some Christmas lights in Amby this
year!
The Christmas meeting will be a lunch at the
Mitchell Cafe for something different with
some retail therapy in Mitchell to follow. Plans
are underway for a cake stall to be held in
Roma early next year. The members of our
Branch wish everyone a Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year with lots of rain to end this
horrendous drought.

Over 100 guests assembled in Mitchell on
October 19 and 20 to celebrate the 130 years
since the first foundation stone was laid for All
Saints’ Anglican Parish Mitchell.
The weekend combined a dinner with a
reunion of former students from the Hostel
which played an important part in the
education of many Mitchell students, and the
launch of the History book “All Saints’ Parish
Mitchell: From Bush Brothers to Mission Area
in 130 years” which was written and edited by
Parish Warden and Secretary Mrs Christine
McLean.
Guests travelled from as far away as
Thargomindah, Sydney and Brisbane. MC Bim
Struss welcomed Mayor Tyson and Mrs
Natalie Golder, Member for Warrego, Ms Ann
Leahy, 18 present and former priests and/or
spouses, and 17 former Hostel students.
Guests were shared entertaining memories of
the hostel days and parish life. On Sunday
October 20, everyone reassembled for
Eucharist in All Saints. Some former ministers
had not seen the new church, opened in 1987
or the newly restored Bush Brothers’ Cottage.
The celebrant was Fr Maurice Collins and
preacher Rev’d John Pryce- Davies.
All Saints’ would like to thank AJW Electrical
and Solar, the Bridge Service Station, Mitchell
Mini Mart, Mitchell Post Office, the Maranoa
Regional Council, the Mitchell Masonic Lodge,
the WORC crew and everyone too numerous
to name individually who helped in so many
ways to celebrate the 130 th birthday of All
Saints.
mental development. They take place every
Thursday during the school term at the Youth
Hub from 3-4:15pm for free during the school
term.
