hile still the Principal of the School Cluster, Hermínio Marques answered some questions on online teacher training and the project pilot being implemented in the school cluster.

1. What’s your opinion about online teacher training?

Online teacher training in Portugal began in 2001 with an innovative experience at that time - Prof2000 -, which lasted until 16 March 2018. Today there are numerous online training solutions for our teachers. In a global and digital society, characterized by the spread of information and knowledge, the challenges and potential of online training are unquestionable.

2. What is your opinion about the participation of the school cluster in the school-based case studies pilot?

It is very positive. Firstly because of the significant number of candidates that applied in Europe, and secondly because it raised awareness about the importance of online teacher training.

3. Why do you support this activity?

I could not help but do it! I believe that one day all training will be through online education. To believe in this is to understand the future!

4. What do you think will be the result of this study pilot?

I am moderately optimistic that this study will translate into an effective paradigm shift as far as the potential of new technologies is concerned, and I am sure that teacher training will necessarily make use of these technologies. The result, I believe, will demonstrate two things: the importance of online training and the need to work hard for the full integration of new technologies in our teachers’ daily lives.
