MEN’S Style guide for men: How to wear chinos C hinos were introduced as baggier trousers with front darts -- clearly everything a stylish guy should stay away from! But over the last couple of years the style offerings have adjusted to the contemporary fasionistas. "Chinos can be a good choice for any occasion be it a casual lunch or formal meeting or movie day out. But picking a right pair of chinos for a right occasion is hard for guys," says designer Banik Walia of BaniRamaa."When you look for a chino, most importantly look for a fitted style, no bagginess around the hips, no excess fabric in the rise and the butt area and no front darts. The leg shape should be according to your preference. If you feel good with a skinny fit than go for it but a straight leg fit or bootleg fit will do just as fine," How to wear them: Wearing a chino on a daily basis might seem a bit of a bore, but if you wear these pants right then it could definitely turn heads around. *Play formal: During the weekday you can opt for a fitted cotton shirt in stripes or gingham with maybe a cotton tie or even a fun plaidbow-tie under a sport coat or a cotton blazer, paired with leather loafer or some other form of leather shoes/boots. This makes for the best professional look. If sporting a tie is a little too much for you then go for a nice pair of royal blue/white formal shirt with beige or tan colour chinos. You can never go wrong with a navy blue-white stripe shirt with tan colour chinos and faded navy blue blazer with a good brown formal street-bourgeois shoes for your office wear," says Walia. But don't forget to add a stainless steel watch to your wrist. This would surely be the killer look of the day. Or else, a simple tan coloured chinos with a button down checks shirt, a plain base knitted tie, brown leather belt and nicely polished brown shoes at work will do the trick. *Go casual: For after hours and for a weekend/easy/ casual look, pair it with a chambray shirt or a striped long sleeve T (both with rolled up sleeves) and accessorise it with some vintage accessories, maybe even a hat. "If you insist on being trendy then go ahead and roll up your chino and pair them with a fun casual looking sneakers like a coloured converse or a vintage style military boots," says Jansari. You can also team your chinos with casual t-shirts, polos, cardigans and hoodies in pastel colours. Just don't forget to add a tint of colour to your wrist with a funky watch and a braided leather belt around your waist. Complete the look with crisp white sneakers. *Colour coding: Chinos look right when they are in their best that is - khakis, greys and browns. These are both classy and fit for tees in different colours.Designers at John Players say, "For a more neutral look go with the regular blacks and make an impact. The trick is to pair up according to the weather and occasion. Chinos paired up with cotton tees is a summer saver. You can also make a regular chino look stylish with a matching belt, hat or sunglasses." 44 | BOOM
