2. Hollywood: Man, those power chords and screaming
guitar effects make me smile. If there is one thing this
band does is make some killer noise! How heavy is it? I
have not shaken my head harder than the first time I
heard Moterhead. These guys are singing about the
decadence of the rock and roll lifestyle. Based on the
genius of their lead ax man, I have no doubt that they are
living it. Overall a very heavy track with a massive
groove!
3. Chivalry: This is an example of the
Bonhamesque percussion I mentioned earlier.
I would swear he is locked in with the guitar
and only occasionally syncs with the bass. The
guitar and drums are wicked on this track. The
bass is there adding some loud, robust bottom,
but it is the guitar and drums that own this
song! I have to admit I was a bit confused by
the name of the track as I usually don’t think
of chivalry having anything to do with pirates.
but rather with knights. In any case, I found
myself more drawn to the massive sonic blast
of music than the vocals.
4. Goodbye: I really like this song. It
is melodic and demonstrates that these
guys really do have some song writing
chops. The song is both beautiful, the
keyboard is nothing if not reminiscent
of the Allman Brothers. I swear I hear
a bit of a Southern Rock vibe in that
guitar solo. The highlight of the song,
for me personally, are the vocals. This
is the first song on the album where I
feel that I am getting a true sense of
the singer as a person and I dig the
style. The words are poignant and
heart wrenching which contrasts
fantastically with the blazing yet soulful guitar. Well done guys!
