When teachers mix up the pace of the class and the types of activities used, students will be more likely to stay focused on the lesson,
thereby increasing the amount of language learning in class.
As I will be teaching English to young learners I shall incorporate
many activities, songs, and stories that build on students’ knowledge and recycle language throughout each thematic unit. This
gives students plenty of practice using the language learned and
helps them scaffold their learning of new language. Thematic units
focus on content-area information, engage students in activities in
which they must think critically, and provide opportunities for students to use the target language in meaningful contexts and in new
and complex ways. The content of these units depend on what the
students are learning in their other classes and therefore English
lessons will be developed using similar content.
Certainly my main goal as an English teacher is to expose young
students to this international language and new cultures that speak
it formally in order to prepare them to become global citizens in the
future.
Community plays an important role in learning. Learning a language
is never an individual endeavor, and neither is teaching. Being
always in the know of what your child is learning and encouraging
them to speak and express themselves in the languages they are
learning or any other subject for that matter would surely help the
child acquire the language and build the much needed confidence
to speak it.
Apart from teaching the language I shall be providing encouragement, input, interaction, feedback, a supportive learning environment and guidance;
I understand that true progression in a language is not based on the
‘ladder’ model but is a more complex and recursive process. children have the capacity to teach and learn from each other, which
is why they will be encouraged to speak solely in English during the
class ,this type of intensified teaching helps children develop and
use particular strategies.
The value of negative as well as positive feedback, while we make
sure that it does not in any way undermine confidence or self-esteem .
The value of open-ended questions and stimuli in encouraging children to be free and creative.
Language to thoughts is what sound to music. Language breaks the
barriers created by language itself!
We don’t all think the same way nor speak the same way , yet we are
all trying, wanting to communicate .
“You can never understand one language until you understand at
least two.” Geoffrey Willans
