How did you get involved in graphic
designing?
I guess the normal origin point for most young
artists begins with traced pictures of Pokemon and
Goku but, I think thats just where the art actions
began. Graphic Design is all about communication
and synthesizing the world into a beautiful concept,
so that started as early as 5 years old. Having to
move constantly between schools in Nebraska,
Detroit, and Atlanta helped me develop the hell out
of those skills.
What do you enjoy most about your
career?
My career gives me the chance to create. Just like
life does. So Graphic Design gives me the
opportunity to reinforce my belief that I’m the
alchemist of my life.
Would you say that music heavily
influences your graphic work? What
artists/albums do you listen to for
motivation?
Of course! My taste in design grew from the seeds
planted by MF DOOM album covers, Kanye flair and
Lupe Fiasco’s Artful Dodger Outfits. MY rotation
normally changes depending on the mood, but some
mainstays are: Kanye West’s “Graduation”, The
Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds”, Lupe’s “Food & Liquor”
and “Giant Steps” by John Coltrane.
“My career gives me the
chance to create.”
You’ve taken your graphic work from
digital platforms, to paper, to
clothing, what got you interested in
placing your work on clothing?
That’s always been the goal! Seeing the Kick Push
Video changed my destiny. Spitfire boards, Artful
Dodger and the Dunks pushed me to go deeper into
streetwear and Hypebeast culture.
What is your thought process when a
client comes to you for work?
I try to get down to what they really want and what’s
the “separator” for their project. Anybody can create
a duck holding a handful of dollars while shooting
a gun (An Actual Request. Can’t make this up...) but
why does that really matter for you? Why does that
matter to anyone?
When it comes to event flyers, what
are some thing you wish people would
and wouldn’t do?
Would Do: Actually let an artist Design it.
Wouldn’t Do: Steal a cool pic they found on
instagram and put bum ass text on it.
