By Carissa S.
On a cold evening in December,
the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur,
set out to send their airplane to flight. All
the previous machines, designs, and
attempts were now part of the past. Who
knew that these siblings would forever
change the world of flight? They went
from humble beginnings in a bicycle shop
to becoming some of the greatest figures
in American history! They had to solely
focus on what was in front of them. Their
goal was to make an airplane and have
someone fly. They were going to reach
that goal one way or another.
For many years, Wilbur and Orville
had tried their hand at many different
contraptions. The brothers even fixed
and made their own bicycles. They soon
became interested in airplane flight. Early
scientists and physicists had pondered
about and dabbled in the field of human
flight. Wilbur and Orville carefully
observed what worked and didn?t work
for the other inventors. The inventors
before them took careful notes and made
many drawings of their machines. The
brothers soon started to work on
different types of designs to create an
airplane. They made many different
changes and modifications to the original
design. Undeterred by challenges and
problems, they pressed on.
In the year 1903, the brothers were
getting much closer to the dream they
had. They had many failed efforts in the
months leading up to their great flights.
Finally, after months of hard work and
pertinacity, they made 4 short flights!
They had finally reached their goal!
Luckily for the Wright brothers, they had
witnesses. Some farmers, their father,
and others stood nearby as the airplane
made its flights.
On that day in Kitty Hawk, North
Carolina, the Wright brothers had made
history, not only for themselves but for
the nation.
