The Real Gift

It?s here! It?s finally the holiday season!
Christmas brings so many traditions
including: Christmas trees, eggnog,
Christmas music, presents, and many more.
Christmas is one of those holidays where
people go over the top in everything they do.
They spend hours elaborately decorating
their house; ?nailing? complex cookies; and
spending hundreds of dollars on gifts. We
submerse ourselves in these fun traditions,
but what really matters during this time?
While it?s fun to rip open wrapping
paper and gasp at the sight of something
you?ve asked for, that is not the real gift you
are being given. The real gift is what God
has given you. He gifted not only his son to
us but he also gifted our family, and I think
we easily forget that. We are incredibly
blessed with the family that we have, the
relationships that have been built, and the
love that surrounds us. When we focus on
what?s under the tree we forget about who
surrounds the table.
The most beautiful gift we have been
given is the love that God has given us
through His son and our family. He sent His
son to us as a human so that one day we
can live everlastingly with Him. Don?t forget
it. Because one day you?ll realize that the
material things you were given didn?t last.
What really did matter is life that you have
been given with your family and the life you
will have with Jesus.
Christmas isn?t about how many gifts
have your name on it but about the faces
you get to see, the memories you get to
make, and the love that you have for each
person around you. Don?t get swallowed up
by the allure of something new but find joy in
those you have with you. Let his Christmas
be different. Focus on your family and love
that encircles you instead of waiting for the
moment you are allowed to open your gifts.
