Kwanzaa

Many people of African descent in America celebrate Kwanzaa, and to start the celebration, people gather together to give thanks for their good fortune. It’s also customary to greet friends and family with the Swahili phrase, “Habari gani” which means “What is the news?” To respond, you say the principle of the day (Umoja, for example, is the phrase said on December 26th.) The central piece of Kwanzaa is well known, and is called the Kinara. The lighting of the Kinara starts when all members of the family (or friends) are present. Kwanzaa is a pretty cool holiday!
